Bowling News Round Up – Terri Kennard
Written by Terri on 11th May 2010The weeks do rattle round so quickly – it’s time for my next News Round Up on TLH Leisure Resort’ new blog site. This is a simple to use and easy to access site – so get bloggin’
But firstly, please meet our new TLH Bowling Agony Aunt -cunningly disguised as ‘Tell Terri’ I will do my very best to solve your problems or answer any question you may have, about bowling. For any other problems please go to Katie Boyle or Marjorie Proops.
On occasions I am asked varying of questions and told all sorts of stories about bowling or umpiring. The situations that people relate to me range from the bizarre to the down right hilarious. Some people want to know about the rules of play and some people think that I wrote the rules myself and just want to have a good moan.
Some scenarios are printable and some are not, but if you have had an ‘experience’ on the green, or around your club, please do tell, there are others who could do with a good laugh, or it could be some invaluable piece of bowling knowledge that will astound us all. Whatever it is, we would really like to hear from you. So get blogging and lets have some fun.
Banwell Bowls Club
The Banwell tour, lead by Fred Lewis, stayed at the Carlton Hotel and had a great weekend. They played at Belgrave BC and Newton Abbot for their 2 requested games. They were delighted with our arrangements for them and Fred Lewis, their organiser, said of the Carlton.
“We have just spent a most enjoyable week-end at your Hotel. Without exception my members have said that they would be more than happy to visit again. You are to be congratulated on the service and quality of all your staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for helping to make our Bowling week-end so successful”
That is fine praise, (get it on Trip Advisor) and we thank Fred for his kind comments. We are looking forward to seeing them again in 2011 when they will repeat their tour.
Bracknell BC
It was a pleasure to see, once again, some of our regular bowlers in the shape of Bracknell BC, lead by Roger Medcalf. They travel to TLH with Dunwood’s Travel.
Roger says “We have a boat trip around the bay, been on a steam train ride and still find time to bowl. Torquay is full of things to do on a sunny day and even if you don’t want to venture too far there is always something going on on-site”
Here are some of the group learning to bowl with some experienced bowlers. They also learned to play Short Mat Bowls and were taught the rudiments of the games by Philomena Keen who is one of our green stewards.
With 2 short mats on the green we can give taster sessions to both disciplines. Of course our outdoor tours are away playing, but if rain stopped that game, the two mats could be rolled up in minutes to accommodate them all on the full arena.
Over the last weekend the Isle of Wight Ladies County Tour and Caer Glow BC came to us. They all enjoyed themselves tremendously. It was a pleasure to work with you all, and we are
pleased to say that Caer Glow will be coming back in 2011. County Tours are always a bit different with each President going to a new destination on their annual tour.
What sets TLH above the rest?
TLH has a dedicated bowls Sales and Co-ordinator team. Combined with the expertise of the Hotel Reservations Managers, it’s this close bond with our bowlers, and our bowling knowledge gained from years in the sport, that puts us head and shoulders above the rest. We acknowledge that every tour is unique and we understand that each and every tour has special requirements. We work with you to make sure that your tour is a great experience. We take a lot of the hard work from you, so that you, as a tour organiser, can sit back and enjoy your bowling and your time with us. All we ask you to do is to arrange your teams into rinks when you play.
If you want to talk to me about touring outdoors, or about your bowls holidays, please call me on 01803 400108, blog back to me, or email me at tkennard@tlk.co.uk.
Its never too late, and we are already being asked about availability for tours in 2012.
Well folks – that’s all for this week
Signing off: Terri Kennard – Looking forward to hearing from you. Get blogging.
