Torquay’s Version of the ‘X Factor’

Seen Britain’s Got Talent, X Factor, Stars In Their Eyes and thought ‘ I could do that’?!… Well here’s your chance to shine! If you have a talent of any kind, from singing and dancing to playing a musical instrument, performing magic tricks or making an audience laugh, then Alberts Bar Manager, Roger Heale, wants to hear from you. `The A Factor 2011’ Talent Competition begins with the first heat of up to six performers on Sunday 17th April in Alberts Bar, at the Victoria Hotel, Belgrave Road, Torquay, and it is still not too late to enter and become part of the experience!

There will be five heats, on Sunday evenings, on 24^th April, 1^st May, 8^th May, 15^th May and 22^nd May, so if you are free on any of those evenings and want to come down to Alberts Bar and perform then we would be delighted to see you. What else are you doing on a Sunday evening?! There will also be a Wild Card round on Sunday 29^th May, made up from the third-placed acts from the heats. The Semi-Finals will take place on Sunday 5^th June and Sunday 12^th June, with the Grand Final on Sunday 19^th June.

All contestants must be 16 or over on the day that they perform and, apart from that, the stage is yours! There will be a total of £500 cash prize money with the winner getting £250, second place £100 and third place £75. There will also be £25 for each of the runners-up and a TLH Goodie Bag will be given to all of the finalists so what have you got to lose?

The winners of the heats will be judged by audience applause, so don’t forget to get all of your friends to come down to support you! The Semi-Finals and Final will be judged by a panel of entertainment experts.

Entry for the `The A Factor 2011’ is free and you can either call in to Alberts Bar for an entry form or e-mail Roger Heale at alberts@tlh.co.uk or call him on 01803 400115 leaving your contact details and an entry form will be sent to you.

Hi everyone, wow what a busy few months we have had here on the entertainment team, and the sun is shining and everyone is happy!

Christmas was awesome, and New Year is always my favourite night of the year and of course, this year like all the others went with a bang.

It is with some sadness that we say goodbye to some amazing team members. Tom & Paris have moved on and it’s been quite sad seeing them go. We had an amazing last night for them, and did our last show on the Wednesday – Big on Broadway – which turned out to be a very moving experience. We have sent them off to sunnier climates with a big bag of goodies & prezzies from the team and a lovely big cream cake that we all ate after the show.

However with every loss there is a gain and we welcome with open arms a new talent to the team … the all singing, all dancing Nicholas Baker ( aka Nicky Bizzle, Buttons and any other nickname we see fit to give him as there are far too many Nicks now). Nick has been a holiday maker here at TLH since the age of 8 and has now taken role of singer in our team shows. He is showing excellent star quality and is already in our Motown Show and currently rehearsing our new show “ Ready Steady Go” our new 60’s tribute team show production. Nick is also an accomplished dancer and you may see him tapping his feet along the dance floor in the future.

Stuff to look out for : new shows for 2011

Ready Steady Go – work in progress
The Way We Were – an old time style show, from wartime, Fred and Ginger, Monroe and Sinatra to Pearly Kings and Queens, a good old fashioned knees up and a trip down memory lane.
And new for the summer an up-to-date lively production show “ Noughty Nineties – 90’s- 00’s” - with classic songs from the 90’s super-groups and up to date music of now!!

And hopefully an 80’s tribute show. Everyone loves the 80’s, but we have got our work cut out so I had better go and crack the whip.

PS In case you would like to know, Tom is in Feurteventura and Paris is in Lanzarote, both working for a travel company.

FANG-tastic halloween & Christmas prep at TLH Leisure Resort

Hi guys, how was your half term??

Ours has been brilliant! We had a FANG-tastic halloween for which we’d been busy rehearsing a one-off performance show called ‘Spooky Spectacular’ for our spooky weekend. The team thoroughly enjoyed doing this once again all singing, all dancing performance. It opened with a very menacing slide show and included a light show and creepy music and zombies waking from the graveyard that we built on stage (we very much enjoyed being horrible zombies). The choreography for our opening number ‘Thriller’, we felt would even have left a good impression on Michael Jackson himself, and was a team effort choreographed by all of us as well as MJ.

So what now… now that the kids have all gone home and back to school and its quiet again?! Well the halloween decs have come down and the christmas tree has gone up, last night we had our first Christmas carols, its now Turkey and Tinsel time at TLH, and rehearsals begin now for our Christmas show too.

I’m must go and crack the rehearsal whip with the rest of the Team now, if you are coming at crimbo then we will see you very soon, only about 7 weeks til Christmas!

Entertainment Team Show is a Big Hit

Thanks to everyone who came along to see our Summer Show this year - it went down a storm. The TLH Entertainment Team and I really enjoyed ourselves performing in front of such fantastic audiences. Thanks too, to the Nadeem family who took some brilliant photographs – here are just a few for you to enjoy.

We hope to see you all again soon – and in the meantime think of us as we start rehearsals for this year’s Christmas showtime!

New member joins the Entertainment Team

Hi guys,

New team member, Wendy

Just popping in to update you on some fabulous news about the team here at TLH Leisure Resort - we have a new team member, Wendy Reynolds who hales from the Wirral in Chester, near Liverpool. Wendy joins us as a dancer to take the place of Gemma.

She has many years experience in this type of business having been working for many years with companies such as Haven Holidays, Warner Holidays, Park Dean Park Resorts and many many more. Wendy is a fab dancer and you will see her in our TLH team shows very very soon, as we are busily rehearsing her into them. She is an excellent presenter too and has been an entertainment manager herself for many years, but has decided to get back on the stage to perform rather organising others…. that’s still my job! It’s really nice to have some new blood on the team and the rest of the guys are very keen and excited to both work and learn from Wendy and vice versa. So welcome to the team, Wendy bird!

Well that’s it from me for now; Summer is nearly over – just another week left and then it’s back to normal, and I guess I had better start rehearsals for our new Christmas show……got any ideas???????

TLH Entertainments Team bring Broadway to Torquay with their show’s premier

Hi guys!

Well what a cracking Summer, the weather was gorgeous for the early part, our guests are fab and it’s great to see our Summer regulars back again: Emily C & parents, Zinger, Acid David, Andrew & Ria and of course Shrek and Donkey & kids!

Well we premiered our new show this year ‘Big on Broadway’ and what a fab show it is, I couldn’t have asked any more of my talented team with every single one of them singing and dancing. We finished to raptuous applause and a standing ovation.

Zoe B and I came up with the idea in the Spring and it was a good 2 months in the planning by the time we’d got together the music, choreography and costumes… people are already asking how I am going to top it next year. (I think I had better start my show writing now!) However, the next production, already in progress will be the Xmas one “Arrrrgh!!!” and it’s only August!

Well we hope you have a great Summer everyone and hope to see you all again soon.

…oh and we have some changes happening in the team too, we welcome back Karma and also Wendy. Watch this space.

Summer fun and entertainment on your holiday at TLH

Summer is a really busy time for us here at TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay. Now the schools have broken up and we’re into the main UK family holiday season, our Summer entertainment programme is in full swing with discos, our own Team Show, visiting cabaret acts, everyone’s favourite – Kevin from KB Sounds, quiz nights and karaoke in Alberts, fancy dress competitions, talent contest for under 15′s, al fresco party night on Thursdays (weather permitting), plus plenty of daytime activities too. There’s the daily Toby Club activities, TeenZone stuff for the 10+ age group, loads of family competitions and games, wet n wild and our Summer Fun Day on Wednesdays by the outdoor pool.

We put in loads of work behind the scenes too so we can put on our best performance when we’re on stage in the Starlight Lounge.You can take a sneaky look at us here rehearsing “Play that Funky Music”

A message from Gemma and Paris – Half Term Fun at TLH

Hey guys

We have all been looking forward to half term and seeing you all again. Toby is now back off holiday and is also very excited to see all you boys and girls! He has brought lots of prizes back for you all to win in ‘Kids Showtime!’

Also back off holiday is Danni, she went to Orlando in Florida to see Mickey and Minnie Mouse and had a great time.

We have had lots of sunshine down here and it has been very hot, hopefully it will be sunny while you’re here so make sure you have lots of sun cream so you don’t get burnt.

Don’t forget we have Teenzone with Nick and for the grown-ups we also have activities during the day for everyone to enjoy!

We have a brand new outdoor swimming pool which will be heated and is opening for the summer and we will be using it during the day for family Wet ‘n’ Wild and Summer Fun Day!

Hey guys – just a quick update to let you know what we’re getting up to.

Gemma

Currently we have 4 shows up and running which seem to be really popular. These include:

Let’s Dance – 50′s & 60′s rock & roll
Can You Feel It – 70′s & 80′s disco
Strictly ABBA – don’t think I need to explain that one
Get Ready for Motown – does what it says on the tin!

We reckon that reason for the success of the shows is due to the different styles and genres appealing to all ages – and they show off the diverse talents that we all have.

For the Summer ahead we have a new show in the pipeline which we are currently working on, bringing you songs from the West End musicals – this should be a great family show.

Toby Lee Hound

Toby is on holiday at the moment taking a well-earned break and re-charging his batteries to get ready for a busy Summer ahead. He’s looking forward to seeing all you boys and girls – watch out in case he pushes you into the newly refurbished outdoor pool!

Tribute Weekends at TLH Leisure Resort

Ever wanted to re-live those Times of Your Life? Well why not join us for one of Legends Tribute weekends here at TLH Leisure Resort on the English Riviera. Every evening of your stay you can step back to a time when you knew all the words and dance the night away in our wonderful Starlight Cabaret lounge in the Derwent Hotel. From Soul and Motown greats to Abba, The Carpenters, Tom Jones and the Beatles each weekend features a tribute cabaret as well as our own Entertainment Team’s musical showcase of the era. The weekends are really popular with groups of friends for that ‘Student’ or Family re-union, so take the chance for a great catch-up without any washing up – and everyone gets a bed and a proper chair!!

And for the Strictly Come Dancing devotees, the Carlton Hotel is offering a huge opportunity in February 2010 to Dance with the Stars.
