So much to see and do when you visit Torquay

Written by Julia on 9th July 2009

There are some great reasons for coming to Torquay for a break at this time of year – not least,  staying at the fantastic TLH Leisure Resort. But locally there are some amazing places to go out and about here in Torquay, Devon  - probably some of the best local attractions and beauty spots in the country!

Paignton Zoo is home to thousands of amazing animals and plants. Visit the desert, cross the savannah, explore the zoo So much to see and do when you visit Torquayforest and trek through the tropics. It’s a great day out for everyone. And – did you know – Paignton Zoo is listed in the Sunday Telegraph’s “Top 50 Days Out!”

See the world in miniature at Babbacombe Model Village - and you can even shrink yourself or your friends and family and become a resident of the village. Talk about the ultimate present – a miniature replica created by the craftsmen at the village.

A great way to get around Torquay town centre is to take the Land Train, which stops right outside the Derwent Hotel, and makes the circular route around town, with plenty of drop off points – every 40 minutes.

For culture vultures, world famous sculptor, Anthony Gormley, has an exhibition at the Spanish Barn – just opposite the Toorak Hotel, called “Field for the British Isles” . It’s here until 23rd August and admission is free.

Looking for something fishy? Then you can visit the National Marine Aquarium at Plymouth – a great day out for marinefish 150x150 So much to see and do when you visit Torquayeveryone. And there are special discounts to guests staying at TLH Leisure Resort. Closer to home you can “Sea Life up Close” (get it!!) at Torquay’s very own Living Coasts.

Kents Cavern is the Ice Age home of Britain’s earliest humans and again there are special discounts for TLH guests wanting to visit this protected national monument. And maybe – just maybe – you’ll get to remember which way stalagmites and stalactites form.

The list just goes on and on. For more information you can take a look at the Out and About Pages on the TLH website. Don’t miss out on a great Summer of fun!
