Tango in Torquay
Written by Vicky on 1st June 2010No ordinary tango though. This is Argentine Tango, an amazingly elegant yet passionate style of social dancing which originated in Argentina and Uruguay.
It is an improvisational and innovative dance which allows each partner to express themselves. The key is the embrace (abrazo), which makes this dance so different to the more traditional Ballroom Tango. In Ballroom Tango, partners arch away from each other above the hip whereas in Argentine Tango dancers have contact at the chest or even the head. Sometmes they are at arms length but the contact is always there. Communication between partners is vital at all times resulting in the dance being likened to a conversation – often a very sensual conversation!
Argentine Tango is taking TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay by storm on the 18th June when Tara Hughes-Law and Fernando Guido bring their Tango Riviera event to the Victoria Hotel. Tara & Fernando are professional teachers and have travelled all over the world performing and teaching Argentine Tango. They are a young, dynamic couple with a great understanding and passion for this dance. Watch them in action and you’ll understand how this dancing style is not to be confused with Ballroom Tango!
If you’re new to the idea of Argentine Tango, don’t worry, Tara and Fernando have two other breaks planned at TLH Leisure Resort for the complete beginner or novice in September 2010 and February 2011.
