Toorak Hotel supports Torbay Council carbon reduction initiative
Written by Nigel Beck on 26th May 2010Green issues were to the fore when I attended the Torbay Carbon Conference held at the RIC in Torquay on 19 May 2010.
At the Toorak Hotel, part of TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay we are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and are one of only 4 hotels in Devon to have achieved a gold award. We are very aware that we have a responsibility to provide sustainable tourism, especially as we live and work in such a beautiful part of the country. Although we have achieved a gold award, it’s very much work in progress as we can still do so much more to reduce further our carbon footprint.
The results of not doing so was made very clear by all the presenters at the conference who emphasized that we all have a responsibility for future generations. It’s really been a team effort here at the Toorak to get this far with our green initiatives. The raft of measures implemented have resulted from both staff and guest feedback which has really gained the commitment of everybody .
Now the warmer weather is here the chef will be reaping the benefits of his herb garden grown in the compost made from recycled kitchen waste, and our wildlife garden is springing into life with the sound of insects buzzing and birdsong. We just want to continue improving and do more to protect our environment. We’ll keep you informed.
