Could The Toorak Hotel Torquay save the EU £1m!!!…
Written by Nigel Beck on 14th June 2010
Is the Toorak Hotel in Devon’s wildlife tower the way forward for urban bees?
Yes the wildlife tower has been the centre of some blog discussion following Simon Sage’s article of 11th May in The Times. The EU is set to spend £2m to fund a project for France to build “Bee Hotels” to encourage bees back into urban areas. The theory is that pesticide use has become so widespread in farming regions across France that wild bees would be better off in towns that have banned pesticides and insecticides in parks and public gardens. However Philip Voice of Landscape Juice suggests the answer is to follow the example of the Toorak Hotel in using recycleable materials such as pallets to constuct wildlife towers and save the EU and France £2m. The Toorak Hotel part of TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay is a member of the Green Tourism Business scheme (holding a gold award) and promotes sustainable tourism across Devon. “We are very happy that our efforts are causing so much debate on such important environmental issues, a subject dear to our own hearts” comments Nigel Beck (Toorak Hotel General Manager).

Couldn’t agree more! Well done Nigel and team.
