West End hot show Calendar Girls comes to Torquay.
Written by Julia on 20th April 2010Take a group of ordinary women – namely the Yorkshire Women’s Institute – get them to pose for a charity calendar with a difference, and you’ve got the ingredients for a hilarious night out.
At last this much talled about West End stage show is coming to Torquay’s Princess Theatre, with a cast of faces familiar to most of us who watch popular TV shows like Eastenders, Only Fools and Horses, Loose Women and Neighbours, to name but a few. The Torquay cast will include Anne Charleston, Gemma Craven, Letitia Dean, Charlie Dimmock, Sue Holderness, Hannah Waterman and Dean Gaffney.
Jam and Jerusalem it ain’t! But this inspirational story should tug at the old heart strings as well as providing alot of laughs, as the story of John Baker, who was diagnosed in 1998 with non Hodgkins Lymphoma, unfolds. Sadly John died 5 months after his diagnosis, but this amazing group of women went on to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund, with a total to date in excess of £1.5 million.
Winner of Best Comedy Award 2010, I’m told this show provides a hilarious night out with a real feel-good factor. I’ve got my ticket already, but if you don’t want to miss out, then book online at www.princesstheatre.org.uk. The show is based in Torquay between 5th and 10th July this year, and of course, if you aren’t local to Torquay, then you can stay a night or two at one of our 2 or 3 star Torquay hotels here at TLH Leisure Resort. We’re only a short walk away from the theatre which is on Torquay’s seafront, next to the harbour and marina. Call us on 01803 400500 to book your accommodation and make a real break of it.
