If you’re a science fiction film fan then head over to Torquay museum as the latest exhibition brings together some great sci-fi movie props. The exhibition, named ‘Visions of the Future’, is running for the whole summer holidays and finishes on the 5th of September. With that in mind, there’s plenty of time to take a look at the sci-fi goodies on offer.
The museum is a great all round attraction and a great place to head to on the odd occassion when the weather closes in. It’s about a 30 minute walk from the hotels but just a few minutes in the car, with ample paid parking close to the museum.
Take some great photographs and enter our summer competition
The sci-fi props will make for some great photo oppourtunities and you might just take a picture worthy of entering into our summer photo competition? You can find out more about our summer photo competition here on our TLH Leisure Resort Facebook page.
What’s on offer at Torquay museums latest exhibition
The exhibition itself is not the biggest but does bring together original props from a number of famous sci-fi movies; including the hover board from Back to the Future, Mondashwan alien from the movie 5th Element and Kane’s spacesuit from Alien. Also on show is a huge sleep pod, with lighting effects, from the Alien movie Prometheus.
It doesn’t stop there, as there’s also something a little different from sci-fi film props. The prototype of the Beagle 2 Mars spacecraft that touched down on the Red Planet in 2003 will also be on display, together with meteorites. If that’s not enough, there’s also items from Doctor Who, costumes from Star Wars and all sorts of other items that will make for fascinating viewing.
Opening day at Torquay museums ‘Visions of the Future’ exhibition
We were lucky enough to attend the opening day and had a chance to meet some of our favourite iconic movie characters. These included the dreaded Darth Maul and Imperial Stormtroopers which were kept under control by the numerous Jedi’s in the museum that day. Chewbacca and the infamous Darth Vader also made an appearance which made for some great photo opportunities.
Along with these great characters, the Alien and Predator made an appearance, battling it out at every opportunity during our visit, much to the enjoyment of the onlookers.
The opening day saw 100s of sci-fi fans flock to the museum and be welcomed by a Dalek. The Dalek was not in the greatest of moods and given the chance I think he would have exterminated all of us in a blink of an eye. Thankfully, there were museum staff, Jedi and Stormtroopers to keep him under control.
