Are you like the rest of us and just love to take a short break away from your day-to-day routine? Do you dream of sunny days and palm trees maybe? Or playing your favourite sport on an immaculate green with stunning sea views? Well your dreams can become reality with bowling holidays on the English Riviera.
Why Choose The English Riviera?
The English Riviera, otherwise known as Torbay, is located in the heart of beautiful South Devon. It stretches from Torquay right round the curving Jurassic coastline, through Paignton and on to Brixham, and it is probably one of the best playgrounds for adults and children alike.
The English Riviera UNESCO Geopark is home to some of the most spectacular coastline in the south west of England. Rare and exotic wildlife thrives in over 100 parks and gardens and its unique heritage spans millions of years.
Stroll along the promenades, or take the ferry from Torquay to Brixham. Go to the shops and browse or visit the Museum and learn about our nautical history. It really is a place for everyone and that includes Bowlers.
Bowling Holidays in Torquay
There are 11 Bowling Clubs in and around Torquay, many of which have fantastic views of moorland and sea as well as grand country houses. But it isn’t just about the bowling, it’s about the company of club mates and fellow tourists and all the other things that our local clubs offer.
In my job I’m lucky enough to speak to bowlers every day and I love telling them all about the delights of visiting Torquay. Conversations often include; ‘Where do you get the best cream tea?’ ‘Where are the best bowling greens’ and generally what is offered for visiting tourists.
Cream Teas and other delights
No matter which bowls club you visit in the area you will find a handsome welcome. The Devon Cream Tea served at some of the clubs for visiting teams is a true delight, and even if you don’t get a traditional cream tea, you’re guaranteed the warm welcome and hospitality of our local clubs.
So, when you’ve buttered your scone, it doesn’t matter whether you put the cream on before the jam, just spread it all on, good and rich and thick, and to heck with the calories. Work it all off in the second half of the game. You’re on your hols, so go on, enjoy yourself.
Where To Stay
OK – I’m biased, but TLH Leisure Resort is definitely a top choice for bowlers. This family-owned hotel complex is set in the heart of the English Riviera. Located just a few minutes walk from the landscaped promenades and beaches, and with its close proximity to the town and other places of interest, TLH is an ideal place to use as a base for bowling holidays and for exploration.
There is also the added advantage, that if it does happen to rain during your stay, it won’t stop play. You’ll still be able to get a game on our tournament standard indoor bowls arena.
You can kick back and relax at the end of your afternoon on the green. After a delicious evening meal, TLH has its own entertainment programme so you don’t have to venture any further the Starlight Lounge in the TLH Derwent Hotel. Evenings start with a session of bingo, followed by nightly music for dancing and either a visiting cabaret act or show-time with the TLH resident entertainment team. You can take a look at the programme on our website to get a flavour of what takes place.
So what are you waiting for? Brighten up your day and give yourself something to look forward to. Find out more bowling holidays and tours in Torquay on the TLH Bowling website. And don’t forget to subscribe to our blog to keep up to date with all of the latest bowling news and views.
