With national recruitment issues well publicised in recent times, our Human Resources team arranged three recruitment open days throughout the month of September. The aim of the open days was to encourage job seekers to find out about the career opportunities at TLH Leisure Resort and what working in the hospitality industry is really like.
Meet the Team
Led by our in-house Training and Development Manager, Mary-Ann Fudge and HR Administrator, Hillary Mottershead, attendees were given the opportunity to meet with TLH team members from varying departments, in a relaxed and friendly environment, to discuss current and future roles within TLH Leisure Resort. For those who were a little more tentative about what the hospitality industry has to offer them, these events also provided a welcoming space to find out more about careers in the hospitality sector in general.
Success
We met with 48 attendees in total, each bringing with them a diverse range of skills and experience. Of the 48, we were delighted to invite 34 attendees to join the TLH family. The successful candidates have since been offered a range of roles across our resort, including operational and managerial positions, making the recruitment open days a great success.
Catherine’s Journey
Catherine is one of the successful applicants who is now a Receptionist at our TLH Toorak Hotel. We caught up with her after a day or two, to hear about her experience throughout the whole process.
How did you hear about the Recruitment open day?
How did you hear about the Recruitment open day?I heard about the recruitment day following my application via Indeed, I had been applying for a variety of part time jobs in Torquay.
What did you know about TLH Leisure Resort prior to the Recruitment Open Day?
I knew very little about the Resort other than it was a group of hotels! I have only recently moved to Torquay although I did live here more than 20 years ago before moving to Portugal.
What was the experience like on the day of the event?
The event itself seemed well organised and I was made welcome, offered refreshments and an explanation of what was going on. I got the impression of a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I had a short and fairly informal chat with Mary-Ann. She had my CV to hand and we discussed some of the items that stood out to her.
How have you settled into your new role?
It’s early days and there’s much to learn, but it is an enjoyable challenge!
