Dance Couple, Gary & Tricia Fleetwood, Celebrate at TLH Leisure Resort

Celebration of Dance couple

The Fleetwoods are quite a name in the dance holiday industry; their innovative approach to dance has resulted in the creation of 21 prize-winning sequence dances over the years, most notably being the renowned Sindy Swing.

We have been lucky enough to have Gary and Tricia Fleetwood host their popular dance breaks at TLH Leisure Resort since 1984, and they’re still going strong. They hosted a break with us back in March, when we caught up with them to find out a bit more about their dancing journey and to wish them a Happy 40th Wedding Anniversary!

Tricia has been dancing for as long as she can remember. In fact she used to dance to her mother’s record collection from the age of 2. She then went on to start proper lessons at 9 years old. She tells us, ‘I met Gary when he was 17, he only started dancing when he was 16 and we were married at 18. I threw him in at the deep end because we danced in professional competitions. I took my professional examination when I was 19 and after that he joined me in the school and we continued competing professionally and did cabarets all over the world.’

It was then that they decided to branch into dance holidays and they knew exactly where they wanted to come: ‘Back then there was a waiting list to run dance holidays at TLH Leisure Resort. There was a couple that were running a dance holiday at the time and wanted to retire, so they offered us an opportunity to take over their week, that’s how we started. We then started doing the November weekend and it grew from there. We now come on average 5 times a year.’

So what is it about the English Riviera and TLH that keeps them coming back?

Gary says, ‘The whole resort here has a homely feeling. We feel it ourselves, it’s always warm and welcoming and everyone gets on well with each other; everything works together and we all gel. We are comfortable and totally at home here’. The high quality of the ballrooms and the dance floors helps too, in particular Warwick Ballroom in the TLH Victoria Hotel where they often host their breaks. Of course the other facilities at TLH adds to the experience. Guests can swim, have a spa treatment and even get their hair done ready for one of the couple’s Party Dance evenings.

Gary and Tricia are back in May and then have a series of 5 other dance breaks taking them right through to April 2019. There are both midweeks and weekends to choose from and the pair offer Social and Ballroom, Latin & Social Sequence Dance breaks. Some breaks include Sunday Lunch and 2 nights start at only £149pp.

I love gardening, wildlife and the great outdoors. I also have a passion for running and have completed 3 half marathons to date - with more planned. I try to live by the motto, 'be pretty on rest days' so when I'm not training I like nothing more than some pampering, high heels and lip gloss!
I've worked at TLH for longer than I care to dwell on but have seen so many changes it's been like working for 3 or 4 different companies! I am now in Marketing and am involved in spreading the word about how great TLH is!

  1. Great fun with our new dancing friends we’ve made on these dance holidays. Gary and Patricia put on a fantastic dance break. Theirs was the first dance holiday we tried over 10 years ago. The Warwick ballroom is one of the best floors we’ve had the pleasure to dance on. Nothing better than a glide around the floor followed by a splash in the Aztec pool (note to self: remember to change from chiffon to swimsuit next time). Looking forward to seeing Gary and Patricia again this year. X
