Halford’s Tour Series Round 8 comes to Torquay and the English Riviera

Visitors to the Toorak Hotel at TLH Leisure Resort got a grandstand view when the Halford’s Tour Series came to town on Jubilee Tuesday for Round 8 of the National Series.

Hundreds of people came to Torquay to watch the progress of this exciting cycle race and the route was lined with spectators.  The circuit race started on the seafront up Belgrave road turning into Chestnut Avenue past Albert’s Bar and the Victoria Hotel and then at full speed past the Toorak Hotel (all part of TLH Leisure Resort, Torquay) with a tricky downhill turn left down Kings Drive and back to the finish line on the seafront.

Conditions were a bit slippery, as we had had rain most of the day, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the crowd or the competitors and by the time the main event started at 7.00pm the rain had stopped and it was looking brighter. On the last lap the leaders had a collision on the tight left hand turn, which eventually changed the result of the race. Click here to see the full race report on the Halfords Website.

This has been such an exciting weekend of events, celebrations and festivities for vistors and residents alike, and whilst we won’t see another Jubilee next year we very much hope to see a return of the Halford’s series next year.

You can watch televised coverage of the race tonight Wednesday 6th June ITV4 at 8.00pm

Nigel Beck

Hi I am Nigel Beck General manager at the Toorak Hotel - having spent two life sentences at TLH (21 years!) probably proves you have to be mad to work here but believe it or not I am still passionate about what we do here and still get a kick out of "happy guests!" liking what we do

One of my most memoroble moments in catering was Mick Jagger being turned away from the restaurant I was working in by the Maitre D for not being appropriatley dresses!! bet thats not happened to often!!

Talking of music being a music fan means getting to a few rock and blues gigs Over the last 12 months have seen the likes of Bob Dylan, Joe Bonamassa (fav), Lynard Skynard, Bad Company, Jethro Tull, Joe Perry. Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, BB King to name a few - you are probably saying who? what? are they still alive etc but get over it -it's what we like!
