TLH Leisure Resort played host to the local Torbay Short Mat bowls league cup final on Saturday 2nd April. The two finalists were the Woodpeckers, captained by Mike Summersby and the Buccaneers, captained by Duke McCann. Read on to find out how the final was contested.
Torbay Short Mat Bowls League Cup Final
The league cup is played with 9 players per team, who play a pairs discipline, triples discipline and then finally a fours discipline. The score is carried through all three disciplines.
The league cup was played in a round robin format at the local clubs between October and March culminating in the semi finals and the finals night.
Before the game, Steve Haywood, representing the local short mat league, presented a cheque of £50 to us to donate to local charity, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.16
The Buccaneers won only one of the disciplines, the triples, but were victorious due to their overall winning score of 39 – 31 shots.
