Strictly Come Dancing 2017

September heralds the end of Summer, the beginning of Autumn, shorter days and darker nights. More importantly, it means that Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens bringing Saturday night viewing back to life.

Dust off your sequins…

Yes – it’s time to polish up the glitter ball again, get out the sparkly frocks and sew on those sequins. The 2017 season of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing launched on Saturday 9th September with co-presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman hosting this year’s launch and welcoming 15 new celebrity contestants to the dance floor.

This year’s Strictly Come Dancing line up

The celebrities being put through their paces this year are: Gemma Atkinson, Chizzy Akudolu, Alexandra Burke, Susan Calman, the Reverend Richard Coles, Brian Conley, Davood Ghadami, Charlotte Hawkins, Mollie King, Ruth Langsford, Joe McFadden, Debbie McGee, Aston Merrygold, Jonnie Peacock and Simon Rimmer. There are some obvious contenders among them, but also some self-confessed rank outsiders who claim they’ve never danced in their lives. It all makes for very watchable Saturday night TV.

This year sees some big changes to the programme as much loved judge Len Goodman left the show last year. Instead we welcomed ‘Queen of Latin, Shirlay Ballas to the panel. Three new pro-dancers have also joined the team.

Tears all round

Of course the show was never going to forget the late, great Bruce Forsyth who co-presented the show with Tess Daly for 11 series and who sadly passed away only three weeks ago. There was a fitting tribute to the consummate entertainer moving Tess, and no doubt many viewers at home, to tears.

Enjoy your own ‘Strictly’ moment

For many of us, Strictly Come Dancing is compulsive Saturday night viewing, but I wonder just how many of us wish we too could learn to dance like the celebrities? There may not be the huge television audiences or the judging panel (thank goodness!), but you can enjoy your own Strictly moment on TLH Leisure Resort’s Strictly Beginners Ballroom & Latin break.

Hosted by dancing duo Philip and Kathryn Hurst, the 2 night break next February is aimed at complete beginners taking their first steps on the dance floor. Within two days you will have learned the basic steps of Ballroom & Latin, including Rumba, Samba, Tango and Foxtrot, in the stunning ballrooms at the TLH Victoria Hotel in Torquay. And if you’ve already started your dance journey, you can always come along to the Hursts’s Beginners Social break where you can hone your new skills.

In the meantime, as we get ready for the start of the “Strictly” season – who are you supporting? Will you be voting when the phone lines open in a few weeks or just bemoan the results if your favourite doesn’t get through? Whatever you do, make sure – in the words of the programme’s hosts – you “Keep dancing!”

I love gardening, wildlife and the great outdoors. I also have a passion for running and have completed 3 half marathons to date - with more planned. I try to live by the motto, 'be pretty on rest days' so when I'm not training I like nothing more than some pampering, high heels and lip gloss!
I've worked at TLH for longer than I care to dwell on but have seen so many changes it's been like working for 3 or 4 different companies! I am now in Marketing and am involved in spreading the word about how great TLH is!
