Things to Do in Torquay – Occombe Farm

17 May 2024

A visit to Occombe is family fun that contributes towards the care and protection of Torbay’s most beautiful green spaces. Torbay has an outstanding natural environment and heritage that needs special care and attention. Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust, a conservation charity, are keepers of these most important natural places for nature, wildlife, recreation and education. Places like Cockington Country Park, Berry Head National Nature Reserve and lots of wildlife-friendly woodlands, meadows, pathways and bridleways around Torbay.

Occombe Farm Park & Play

Occombe Farm is a mix of visitor attraction with indoor and outdoor play, animal encounters barn and animal paddocks trail; a farm shop and a farm cafe. Visit the Animal Encounters Barn for cuddles with bunnies and guinea pigs. Follow the 500 metres self-guided Farm Animal Paddocks Trail to see goats, pygmy goats, sheep, donkeys and Shetland ponies. ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS

Aside from meeting bunnies and guinea pigs in the Animal Encounters Barn, from time to time, there’ll be babies too; lambs, kids and chicks.

Play indoors and out! The play barn is a unique space for outdoor play; indoors! For exploring and inspiring children aged 2–12 years. A space for make-believe, fantasies and imaginary adventures. FIND OUT MORE

Explore the Woodlands

The walk through Occombe Valley Woods includes pathways that are mostly gently sloping, although sometimes it does get steeper and does include some steps. This is a great place to take dogs, especially during hot summer days.

A dedicated local nature reserve and ancient woodlands, Occombe Valley is managed by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust. The woods are situated just in between Occombe Valley Road and Sandringham Drive, and can be entered from numerous places. The surrounding places are mostly residential and so adjacent parking is limited, however, why not begin your walk at Occombe Farm which offers car parking, toilets and a café.

The mature trees provide a great canopy which keeps the woods cool even on the hottest of days. There is also a stream running through the middle, making it a great place to go dog walking in the heat of summer. VIEW MAP
