There is nothing more likely to ignite the festive spirit than attending a Christmas Market. The atmosphere, the smell of hot food and drink and the wonderful gifts really get the festive period underway. Torquay and the surrounding areas host a wonderful array of markets, each with their own unique feel.
1. Torquay Christmas Market
The pedestrian area of Lower Union Street in Torquay will host the annual Christmas Markets over the weekend of 25-26 November. With over 40 stalls expected, there will be quality traders and gift vendors showcasing ideal presents for all the family.
2. Lupton House – Christmas Craft Fayre
Come and join in at Lupton House for 2 days of craft stalls and family fun at Lupton House on Saturday 25th (10am – 5pm) & Sunday 26th (10am – 5pm) November.
Exeter’s Christmas Markets will run from Thursday 16th November until Sunday 17th December. This year the market will focus on the West Front of the Cathedral and will still have a ‘Continental’ feel. It will boast more opportunities to support local businesses and performers. It will open on Thursday 16th November 2017 at 3pm and will have an official launch in the evening. Trading times will be: Monday to Wednesday: 10am – 7pm; Thursday to Saturday: 10am – 9pm and Sunday: 11am – 5pm.
As usual there will be a mix of local traders plus continental ones, all who will showcase the best of festive food, crafts and gifts. New for this year will be a bandstand with performances from local bands, carol singers and choirs. You can visit other street markets whilst in Exeter which will be held in Castle Street and Fore Street.
In its 21st year, Westpoint, Exeter will host its annual Christmas Shopping Fayre from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th November 2017. Each year there is an incredibly diverse range of exhibitors from far and wide who transform Westpoint into an Aladdin’s cave of wonderful gift ideas and essential Christmas items. It’s a magical few days and we know you will all enjoy the show as much as their many thousands of regular visitors. In their 22nd year, they’re going to make it memorable with many, many new exhibitors with 100’s of brand new lines, more entertainment to enjoy and look out for the celebrity appearances. Prices are Adults £3.50; OAP £2.50; 16 under free. There is also lots of free parking!
Boasting over 90 specialty stalls selling the likes of crafts, hand painted ceramics, cards, jewellery, homewares, textiles, toys, soap, art and more, their annual gift fair is the perfect place to get Christmas wrapped-up nice and early. The popular food marquee will be back, while to add to the Christmas atmosphere our skating rink will be operating in the quad, while little ones will love the 50 ft bouncy snowman! The well known Christmas Markets will return to Totnes on Tuesday evenings on 5th, 12th and 19th of December 2017 open from 15:30 to 21:30. Totnes market square will again host its diverse and eclectic mix of Christmas stalls ran by market traders. The event will included locally based traders, producers and entertainers. There will be performances from local schools, community choirs, local bands and drummers and will include lantern parades and of course, a Santa’s grotto. Lovely food, local cider and lots of Christmas shopping – what more could you ask for!
Brixham’s Christmas Market will be incorporated with their ‘Latern, Lights ‘luminations’ event on Saturday 25 November. The whole event runs from Friday 24-Sunday 26 November and includes magical events, shopping and Christmas festive fun. Newton Abbot brings you two evenings filled with festive cheer, street entertainment and stalls. The events take place in the pedestrianised area of Courtenay Street and Queen Street with shops staying open late, a Lantern Parade and Santa in his Clock tower grotto, this is an event not to be missed. The first of these two nights is on Wednesday 13 December (with a lantern parade at 6.30pm) and Wednesday 20 December.
Kingsbridge will celebrate Christmas once again on Saturday 2nd December so get in the festive spirit and eat, drink, and be merry in Kingsbridge this Christmas… Starting on the Quay, the Farmers Market will kick off the festivities with their fruit & vegetables grown locally, a glistening array of fresh fish, the smell of freshly baked bread still warm from the oven, and meat served by the farmers who tended the livestock. Luscious homemade cakes, a wide range of homemade preserves, cheeses, locally grown flowers, plants, and herbs. Pies, pasties and honey, plus free range eggs, local ale and more. This Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton has a reputation for offering special events throughout the year designed to compliment the permanent exhibitions on site. This year they are holding their popular Christmas Market over two days on Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 December and Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 December 2017 from 10am each day. Food and Craft Stalls, including over 30 stallholders with a good mix of Christmas Comestibles, Seasonal gifts, Hand Crafted Gifts, Glassware, Candles, Confectionery, Soft toys, Hand crafted cards, Lace, Pet foods, Jewellery, Leather crafts, Cushions, Soaps, Patchwork kits and more. Candlelit Dartmouth 2017 will take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th November. There will be a wide range of stalls over both days plus entertainers and musicians, carol singing with the BRNC Volunteer Band and the Britannia Choral Society. Friday will see the official switch-on of the town’s Christmas lights, Santa arrives by boat. Saturday will start from 10am and will see seasonal workshops including “Candlelit Kids” plus Santa’s grotto in the Flavel as well as a lantern procession. More details can be found on their website.
