There are always things to do for families in Torbay whether it be local attractions or great outdoor events. We’ve listed our favourite 5 activities this summer in Torquay and the surrounding areas which are great for families visiting the area and local families alike.
Paignton Festival 2017
This event (previously known as Torbay Carnival Week) has been running for over 100 years and was originally held on one night as a procession night. Over the years, however, it has grown to run over nine days. Free entertainment is available for all the family with the aim to raise money for local charities and organisations. This year’s procession will be held on Wednesday 26th July departing from Paignton Green at 7.45pm. Full details of the whole event is available on the Paignton Festival website.
Party On The Green 2017!
Our local radio station introduces The Breeze Party on the Green on Saturday 22nd July 2017 as part of the Paignton Festival. Headlining the event is Heatwave. This International funk/disco band were formed in 1975 and are known for such hits “Boogie Nights”, “The Groove Line”, and “Always and Forever”. Brother Beyond’s frontman Nathan Moore will be supporting and so will some of the best local talent in South Devon performing on stage from 2pm: Luke Friend (X-Factor in 2013) Abba tribute group Take A Chance On Us, Local musician Rich Cottell, plus many more. There’s a licensed bar on site, Anderton & Rowlands Fun Fair and Fireworks finale. The event is absolutely free to attend so come down and enjoy some outdoor music!
Take a Trip by Boat, Train and Bus on the Round Robin
There is no better way to explore our wonderful part of the world than on the steam train, river boat and bus which visits the quaint towns of Paignton, Dartmouth and Totnes.
The journey on the steam train is approximately 30 minutes then jump on the river boat for just over 90 minutes. During the trip on the water, listen to the commentary with interesting facts about the wonderful coastal areas as well as lots of local history. Finish off the day with a bus trip for around half an hour. Sit back and enjoy the scenery with their award-winning ticket which is a favourite with both young and old. The Round Robin runs until 28th October in 2017. Visit their website and use the itinerary planner to organise your trip. You can choose your departure point and check sailing times. The route can be taken the other way round if you prefer to end your adventure on the steam train. Prices are Adult £26.50, Child (3-15) £16.00, Concession (aged 60+) £25.00 and a family ticket (2 Adults & max 3 children) £71.50.
Children’s Week 2017 in Paignton
Welcome to a free week of fun for all kids both young & old from Tuesday 15th August 2017. In its 71st year, Children’s Week really is part of Paignton’s History. Funded entirely by local businesses, local residents and visitors alike always enjoy this week of free entertainment on Paignton seafront. Tuesday 15th August World of Discovery. Wednesday 16th August Medieval Day. Thursday 17th August Once Upon a Time including the famous Onesie Disco from 7pm. Friday 18th is Messy Day: Messy obstacle course, The Great Gunge Quiz, Inflatable Challenge, The Children’s Week Water Fight And The loads of Gungetastic Fun…. Saturday 19th August Sci-fi Saturday.
All this plus the Children’s Week Entertainment Team will be live on stage throughout the day. Listen out for the ‘let’s get ready to rumble’ theme and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a Children’s Week Prize! More acts and events are being added all the time. Keep up-to-date at their website.
