Autumn on the English Riviera

2 August 2023

Now summer is a distant memory, our stunning countryside and coastline turns a beautiful shade of autumnal colours. The English Riviera is the perfect place to plan an autumn break away. Whatever you want from a short holiday, whether it is half term with the kids or a nice dose of fresh air and brisk walks as a couple, there is definitely something for everyone.

The Great Outdoors

We are only one of the eight UNESCO Global Geoparks in the UK and 140 in the whole world. Cockington Country Park is a paradise for walkers, gardeners, nature lovers and families. With wild woodland, landscaped gardens, a craft centre, play area and tea rooms, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Autumn is one of the best times to enjoy the quaint village of Cockington and the surrounding park and woodland, when the trees are starting to turn and the ground is scattered with fallen chestnuts.  COCKINGTON PARK

The South West Coast Path

The South West Coast Path (SWCP) is 630 miles long and is the longest established National Trail in the country. We are also very close to the South West Coast Path which you can take either towards Teignmouth and Dawlish or to Paignton and Brixham. SOUTH WEST COAST PATH

Walking on the English Riviera

Walking on England’s Seafood Coast during Autumn and Winter is a fantastic way to take in the red-carpeted woodlands and an invigorating sea breeze. BEST AUTUMN AND WINTER WALKS

Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which ‘Geocachers’ use GPS or an app on their mobile device to hide and seek containers called ‘geocaches’ or ‘caches’ anywhere in the world. They are hidden in town, cities and the countryside. There are plenty around Torquay and South Devon to get your geocaching adventures started. FIND OUT MORE

Great Value Breaks

We have our brand new ‘Big Weekends’ including our Decades and Legends weekends. BIG WEEKENDS

So don’t dismiss the English Riviera as a summer holiday destination only. The mild climate usually ensures higher temperatures than most so getting out and about is still a pleasure and there’s certainly plenty to see and enjoy this autumn.

October Half Term

There are lots of events planned for this year’s half term right across the bay, including activities at our wide range of local attractions and outdoor spaces. The caves of Kents Cavern have lots of batty adventures including an underground pumpkin hut and woodland bat challenge. KENTS CAVERN

We have been staying at TLH for the past 14 years, sometimes twice or three times a year. It simply cannot be beaten for value for money, we now feel like it’s our second home! The facilities are amazing, the food is truly wonderful with plenty of choice for children and the staff are friendly and helpful. Every break has given us wonderful memories to treasure as a family and that’s why we keep on coming back for more!

TLH Derwent Hotel

We have been coming to TLH and staying at the Derwent for the past 17 years. It’s like a 2nd home – we always get a warm welcome from the Teams and feel like they are our extended family. Our children have know the complex layout so well that they are comfortable doing their own thing, but feeling very safe doing so.

We holiday at various times of the year and it’s a wonderful family experience we all look forward to whether it’s the 10, 20, 50, 70 or 80 year olds!
