Now summer is a distant memory, our stunning countryside and coastline turns a beautiful shade of autumnal colours. The English Riviera is the perfect place to plan an autumn break away. Whatever you want from a short holiday, whether it is half term with the kids or a nice dose of fresh air and brisk walks as a couple, there is definitely something for everyone.
October Half Term
There are lots of events planned for this year’s half term right across the bay, including activities at our wide range of local attractions and outdoor spaces. The caves of Kents Cavern have lots of batty adventures including an underground pumpkin hut and woodland bat challenge. KENTS CAVERN >
Or how about visiting The Curse of Amenhotep, a two hour interactive mystery experience run in association with TORQUAY MUSEUM >
The Great Outdoors
We are only one of the eight UNESCO Global Geoparks in the UK and 140 in the whole world. Cockington Country Park is a paradise for walkers, gardeners, nature lovers and families. With wild woodland, landscaped gardens, a craft centre, play area and tea rooms, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Autumn is one of the best times to enjoy the quaint village of Cockington and the surrounding park and woodland, when the trees are starting to turn and the ground is scattered with fallen chestnuts. The South West Coast Path (SWCP) is 630 miles long and is the longest established National Trail in the country. We are also very close to the South West Coast Path which you can take either towards Teignmouth and Dawlish or to Paignton and Brixham. SOUTH WEST COAST PATH >
Great Value Breaks
We have some great breaks over the October half term including our Spooky weekend filled with Halloween treats and activities. Join us for a spook-tacular family break and enjoy some ghoulish entertainment and scarily good savings! Plus there’s a visit from family favourites Animal HQ on the Wednesday! OCTOBER HALF TERM >
We also have our brand new ‘Big Weekends’ including our Decades and Legends weekends. BIG WEEKENDS >
So don’t dismiss the English Riviera as a summer holiday destination only. The mild climate usually ensures higher temperatures than most so getting out and about is still a pleasure and there’s certainly plenty to see and enjoy this autumn.

What our guests say
We are regular guests at the TLH resort and we love it! So much for families to do, the food is great with plenty of choice for everyone and all with a friendly service. The TLH resort is always spotlessly clean throughout and with the English Rivera on its doorstep to explore, it is the perfect place to be!
TLH Carlton Hotel
We have been staying at TLH for the past 14 years, sometimes twice or three times a year. It simply cannot be beaten for value for money, we now feel like it’s our second home! The facilities are amazing, the food is truly wonderful with plenty of choice for children and the staff are friendly and helpful. Every break has given us wonderful memories to treasure as a family and that’s why we keep on coming back for more!
TLH Derwent Hotel
We have been coming to TLH and staying at the Derwent for the past 17 years. It’s like a 2nd home – we always get a warm welcome from the Teams and feel like they are our extended family. Our children have know the complex layout so well that they are comfortable doing their own thing, but feeling very safe doing so.
We holiday at various times of the year and it’s a wonderful family experience we all look forward to whether it’s the 10, 20, 50, 70 or 80 year olds!
